Hi Guys
I am new to this keywords thing.

As a manufacturer with a new unique product we want to drive traffic to our website (obviously)

On working on Google Adwords - everyone says target your keywords, but they really mean KeyPhrases, Don't They.

Our product is to do with coffee, (but its not coffee) its a coffee widget that no one has heard of.

So we cannot use Coffee as a keyword as that would never get found.

So we need top use keyword phrases, ie "Coffee widget great"
of "Coffee Widget does this"

I just think that Google and SEO people should use the term KeyPhrase, rather than keyword.

I mean nobody is going to search for "Cars"

In keyword selection, choosing long-tail keywords or keyphrases is better because they are more targeted and have better conversion rate. However, you still need to look at the search volume. It's another factor to consider.

hina, I suggest you use Wordtracker of this tool here https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal to find the keywords people are looking for on the web.

Keywords are not just single words. Don't think of them as words. They are what people type in search engines. Just think of what you type when you are trying to find something. You would not type "car" if you wanted to buy a BMW 5 series. So, a keyword are all the words that people type in search engines within one search. They are more often than not...phrases.

If you are marketing a product no one has ever seen you have to understand, no one will probably search for it, so try to find words that your target market uses to find related products. If you sell a super extra widget called "asdf" for cars that boosts your engine, your keyword might be "car engines".

Is it clear now?

Using keyphrases really help you a lot. Think of set of keyphrases that mostly individuals use when they search a particular product/service. Then consider them as your target.

Short tail keywords are in fact very hard to rank but it gives enormous traffic and average conversions. Long tail keywords are easy to rank because of less competition but gives low traffic and good conversions. Keywords in between give respectable traffic, take some effort to achieve the rankings and have nice conversion rates.

Keyphrases are a lot better for two reasons. They are often less competitive and tend to have better conversion rate. Smile

Keyword is a singular word which mean 1 word keyword. 1 word keyword is very general and when you try to search it you have no chance to reach the top because for sure the top search will be the definition of that word. If you try 2 or more keyword phrase then that will give you a chance to get on the top.

I find that 2 or 3 word phrases are the way to go. My 4 word ones are not getting ranked well, despite the good competition figures
