What is the best way to set up a New Site to get around the Google Sandbox ?

Does buying an expired or existing domain help ?

If you buy an expired domain, does it matter how long the domain has been expired ?

Does buying an existing domain and then 301 redirecting it to a new domain work... ?

I've read many ideas about these issues, but its not clear what is the best approach to start with...

Thank you,
BL

Depends on your site model ...

I prefer to register a new domain if you plan to start a big business.
If you decide to make a simple blog or "junk" site an expired domain will help expecially when the domain has a bunch of backlinks in the major SE.
If you buy expired domain, buy it direct from registrar before they actually release it. That way Google will not know its expired. If you buy an actual expired domain after it's release chances are it will loose it's PR. The best way is actually to buy an existing domain or site (before it is expired).
I would be careful with redirects.

buying names from people or from a registrar before it drops is a good option.

If you are running a white hat site though, the sandbox should not be that big of an issue though.

I also do not think it matters if a name expired 4 years ago or today. they will be treated the same.

definitely not. Get your link strategy right and you will not get into sandbox.

Buying an aged domain is so much better. Google gives weight to the age of a website in ranking. The older the site is, the better.

As avove mentions buying an aged domain is better but make sure its never been dropped as that will effect the true worth ...also if you wanting to go this route try and get one with pr (page rank) also ...

An aged domain is always better than a brand new one.

How do you go about buying a domain direct from the register before it drops? I would love to purchase an older site but not sure where to go to accomplish this.

Well it really depends on the reputation of the provider. While it's better to choose aged domain, that's not always equivalent to getting high ranking in Google. You still need to build quality links for the site.
