Google has been adjusting their algorithms lately. It seems they are pulling their focus off of the linking system to a more narrower focus. The incoming link os analyzed for key terms in the anchor text, and the page rank is combining keyword density, traffic, and links as well.
Yahoo seems to still be relying heavily on links. So getting rankings using the old linking methods still seem to be working.
